Saawan Duvvuri is a junior at the University School of Nashville and a Racial Equity & Policy Researcher at Harvard, Vanderbilt, and UCLA, where he researches racial disparities in policing, sentencing, and incarceration while focusing on the gaps in our legal system that cause different educational and justice outcomes between racial groups.
As a student of color growing up in the Southern United States, Saawan constantly noticed the lack of representation marginalized groups had throughout the literature taught in his classrooms, despite the importance of these groups on the topics he learned about.
In 2023, Saawan founded LiteratureDiversified to empower underrepresented students in education through diversifying classroom curriculums to include culturally representative texts, literature, and curricula and by working to solve the educational disparities in his communities that affected underserved students throughout America.
